Hans Holbein o Novo (1497-1543)
Holbein opted to represent Christ in all his humanity here: Christ's dead body is so realistic that it is said to have been painted from de corpse of a drowned merchant. It is hard to believe that Holbein could have inventend that cadaverous stiffness, that gaping mouth baring its teeth, that greenish hue, or even that half-closed eye.
